The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) organized 4th ASEAN IP Register Regional Coordinators Meeting and WIPO-ASEAN IT Workshop were held in Jakarta, Indonesia, in collaboration with the ASEAN Secretariat and the Directorate General of Intellectual Property of Indonesia with support from Funds-In-Trust Japan Industrial Property Global (FIT/Japan IP Global).
The meetings coincided with the ASEAN IP Register National Workshop for stakeholders in Indonesia.
4th ASEAN IP Register Regional Coordinators Meeting and WIPO-ASEAN IT Workshop on May 6-7 and 9-10, 2024.
The meeting was opened by Mr. Bakhtiar Bandial, the ASEAN Secretariat, Ms. Dede Mia Yusanti, the Directorate General of Intellectual Property, Indonesia, Mr. Juneho Jang, IP Office Business Solutions Division, WIPO and Mr. Takeshi Sakaguchi, Deputy Director, Patent Information Policy Planning Office, Japan Patent Office.
A total of 42 officials, including IP office officials from nine ASEAN countries, the Japan Patent Office, and the ASEAN Secretariat, participated physically. Most of the meeting topics revolved around detailed discussions on the business and technical requirements for ASEAN IP Register Advanced Data Services. The workshop also covered the WIPO DAS service in support of ASEAN offices' initiatives in utilizing the platform, and WIPO IPAS, which is being utilized by six ASEAN IP offices.
Ms. Sri Lastami, the Directorate General of Intellectual Property, Indonesia and Ms. Thitapha Wattanapruttipaisan, WIPO Singapore Office delivered opening remarks for the workshop.
The primary goal of this national workshop was to enhance understanding of the ASEAN IP Register among relevant stakeholders in Indonesia and serve as a reference for other ASEAN IP offices for promoting the service in their respective countries.
The workshop included sessions on the introduction to ASEAN IP Register data services and WIPO Singapore Office initiatives for SMEs. The workshop attracted around 100 participants from various sectors, including government officials of Indonesia, local IP professionals, university students, SMEs, and invited experts from ASEAN IP offices. The active participation and positive feedback from attendees underscored the effectiveness of the training sessions.
